March 17, 2007 "Happy St. Patrick's Day"

It snowed all night and was still snowing when we opened the shades in the morning. Everything was white, the snowplows were out, the wind was blowing the snow in every direction. The streets were deserted. After everyone showered and dressed we went downstairs to have our Buffet Breakfast. They had quite a spread. So many goodies that I decided to go back up to the room to get my backpack and a plastic bag to put a few munchies in just in case we got the hungry horrors during the course of the day. We took lots of fruit, trail mix and a couple of pastries. After breakfast we went back to the room to get our coats to venture out to the city. As we were putting on our coats and hats Dallas realized he couldn't find his hat. We searched every square inch of the room but we weren't able to find it. Backtracking the night before he realized he must have left it on the chair downstairs in the lobby. We went to the front desk but no one had turned it in. So that was our first priority, to find Dad a new beanie. Because it was bitter cold outside and Dad didn't have a hat we decided to go to the underground city shopping before venturing outside. We checked out LOTS of souvenir shops and sports shops but no luck. I did find a few post cards for our picture back home.

Morning Snowfall

(Montreal 2007)

We found a great T-shirt for Austin that says, "Evolution of a Canadian" with ne-anderthal man evolving into a hockey player. You have to see it to understand the humor. Austin also got a couple of Montreal pins for his collection. After not finding anything "down under" we ventured outside. It was still snowing but at least the wind was not as strong as it was yesterday. There was about 8 inches of snow on the ground. It was so pretty and refreshing. Of course we also don't live in it! There were lots of shops outside so we just stopped at everyone we could find. Eventually Dallas found a hat he liked but Austin ended up finding one he liked as well so in the end Dallas got Austin's old beanie and Austin got the new one. In one of the shops we stopped in we got Aubrey who Dallas works with a beautiful mobile. We also got one for us and one for Aunt Nancy. We found a really beautiful faux fur jacket for Aunt Nancy, which we knew, would be a bit big, but would certainly be warm for those New Mexico winters. We wanted a smaller size but they didn't have it and we all loved it so much and thought Nancy would too so we decided to get it anyway.

Awaiting An Early Spring

(Montreal 2007)

We did some power shopping that's for sure. We were all really hungry so we asked one of the sales girls in one of the shops that we stopped in for a recommendation and they said "Ruebens". We found Rueben's waited for about 20 minutes and were seated. It was a higher end Toojays. The atmosphere was very New York. The food was very good once Dallas found a sandwich he liked but the service was HORRIBLE. Once our belly's were full we continued shopping a bit but decided to head back. On our way back I wanted everyone to make a snow angle in virgin snow but they both pooped out so only I did. I haven't done that for a very long time.

Who's Who, I Lost My Date

(Montreal 2007)

As we were walking back to the hotel I remembered reading that there was a skating rink somewhere near our hotel. We manage to find it. It was located inside an office building with small little café's all around it. Austin and I rented skates and joined in. After a while Dallas headed back to the hotel to rest a bit before the hockey game that night. He took our jackets and all of our bags except our shoes. Austin and I stayed for at least another half an hour before we got tired and the rink was getting a bit too full. This was the place to be for tweenies on the weekend. Lucky for us the hotel was right across the street because it was cold and we didn't have our jackets. We made our journey across just fine.

Then The Angels Returned My Date!

(Montreal 2007)

Up to the room to rest before the big hockey game between Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadians. We all got dressed for the game in every piece of TML clothing we owned. Even me. (Although mine was borrowed from the boys) We walked over to the Bell Centre and wandered around. Got our picture taken with their mascot, which we later used in our souvenir picture. Because Dallas bought the tickets to the game very late we were unable to get the seats together and because we arrived at the game so early there were a lot of empty seats so we just all sat together until the owners of our current seats came then we would have to move. Well, that lasted about 40 minutes so we had to find our assigned seats.

I got sandwiched between a Toronto fan and a Montreal fan. We were all within about 6 seats from one another so it wasn't so bad. We would all meet up between periods, get some munchies, and chat. It turned out to be a really good game even though Toronto didn't win. They lost in a shoot out, a very important game for the playoff race. Needless to say after the game we were glad to get back to the room to rest. We weren't able to rest for long because we had a very early flight out the next morning so we had to pack our bags.

March 17, 2007 Saturday Austin's Journey Entry

We had our breakfast buffet at the hotel. After we put on our jackets and headed underground so we could go to the mall. There were a lot of stores there. My Mom got some postcards at the first store we saw. Since my Dad lost his beanie, we had to look for a new one. We looked everywhere. After leaving the underground mall we went outside to the downtown area where there were more shops and more snow. I went in a sport shop. They had hockey stuff, I needed to get some hockey tape for my hockey stick. It was my first real taste of snow, I couldn't resist making a snowball. Of course and my luck will have it as I threw it, my Mom turned her head and it hit her on the side of the neck. She wasn't too happy. Dad warned me to be careful because "She will get you back". And that she did, as soon as I came around the corner, I got snow stuffed in my face and down my neck. I guess I deserved it! It was all in good fun. Another time I tried my dad splashed the snow back in my face. Twice actually.

We went to all the Sport shops. Finally I saw a Toronto Maple Leaf beanie that I liked. It is black and it says "Toronto Maple Leafs" all over it. After getting that we kept walking and walking and walking. There was one souvenir shop that there was a coat that we bought for Aunt Nancy. We also bought her a hanging decoration. We got one for us and for Dad's assistant, Aubrey.

Austin Warming Up

(Montreal 2007)

At about 1:00 p.m. we started to head back towards the hotel as our tummies were getting restless. We stopped in a restaurant called Rueben's. It was very good. My Mom had a Rueben sandwich, my Dad had a Roast Beef Sandwich and I had a burger. After lunch we headed back to the hotel. Yeah! It's still snowing. We went by the mall on the way there and my Mom and I went ice-skating. We, my mom and I had to rent skates from the place. My Mom and I kept skating for a while. We haven't been skating since January in Toronto. The ice was really bad when we got there but, after a while the zamboni came out and cleaned the ice up. After a while my foot was hurting and my Mom was getting tired so we got our stuff and headed outside back to the hotel. We didn't have our jackets because Dad took them with him. Lucky for us the hotel was right next-door. I walked through the snow with a long sleeve shirt on. We then went to our room to get ready for the hockey game at the Bell Centre.

We could see him in the corner of the rink, he had on a big green St. Patrick's day hat. Before the game we walked thru the Bell Centre to look around. We found a room where they had a Montreal Mascot. The people let you take pictures with him.

When he saw us, he was booing because we were Toronto fans. We took 2 pictures with all of us. One bad thing about this game was that my Dad got the tickets so late he couldn't get the seats together, so we sat together for most of the 1st period.

Then the people that sat in the seats we were in came, so we had to go to our assigned seats. The game was really good. In the first period, Montreal scored the first goal at 6:45 (Spetza). Then Toronto scored the second goal at 15:41 (Wellwood) It was tied 1 to 1 at the end of the first period.

(Montreal 2007)

In the second, Montreal scored the second goal at 10:00 (Uder). The second period wasn't that good for Toronto. The second ended with Montreal 2 and Toronto 1. In the 3rd Toronto tied the game at 2 to 2 at 8:30 (Kubina knocked it off the post) The game had to go to overtime. Both teams had good chances but no goals. So it goes to a shootout. Up first was Kovelev for Montreal and he didn't make it. Then Wellwood tried for Toronto and had no success.

After that Macalus tried and again no score. For Toronto Sundin was the only one that scored After 5 rounds. Darcey Tucker failed to score. The Montreal Canadians had won the game and got 2 points. All the Montreal fans were so happy. After we saw the three stars, we headed out slowly like everyone else our heads held low and rejected. When we got back we were looking at our pictures that we took. While we were doing that we noticed it was still snowing. After about 20 minutes we went to bed. We were all very tired from all the action that went on today and at the hockey game.
