Up early - Austin and Dad ventured out for a walk and knowing I couldn't sleep decided to head out with then. Austin began collecting hermit crabs and Dad and I helped him, which wasn't hard to do. Not wearing any shoes I opted to head back because the beach had a lot of shells and was not kind to my feet. They continued on and ended up walking completely around the island. Once they returned, we ate some breakfast that we had brought with us and prepared to get ready for our fist dive in Tahiti. We set off on our first Tahiti dive and met with the Dive Master who was very young and named Fannie. She spoke very good, yet broken English. Her father, also a master diver spoke "some" English and depended on his daughter for the remainder. Our first dive we went down as far as 93 feet. In fact, Austin's computer read 93 feet, mine read 90 and Dad's read 84 feet. It just goes to show you when you're diving you're in your own little world admiring theirs. On our first dive we saw lion fish and eels and a plethora of marine life. When we came up for our break we were treated to lukewarm tea. It must be the norm; I just didn't find it appetizing. Our second dive we saw our first South Pacific turtle. She was a beauty. Fanny was able to get very close, in fact, she was able to pet it on the head. It was as if the turtle really enjoyed the touch. In fact, when we surfaced so did he/she (not sure) we were told that there weren't many because the Polynesians like to eat them. We saw of couple of sharks, in fact we were admiring a small cave which a large grouper was hovering, unbeknownst to us there was a shark behind us waiting to catch his lunch, being the grouper. I'm glad I didn't know that until after I surfaced.

Austin's Entry: My Dad got me up early to go for a walk. We walked a little bit and we found a hermit crab. And we held it and we found more and more. And my dad also found a bag to put them in. We walked all the way around the island.

More Crabs

(Tikihau 2007)

We found about 40 hermit crabs. Then we came back and put them in a bucket and sat ate some breakfast in front of them. When it was 30 minutes to 9 we started to get our diving stuff together so we could try there diving and dive spots.

Dive Boat

(Tikihau 2007)

When it was quarter till we started to head up there to see all the people and get our stuff ready for the dive. We had to get wet suits and we had to put our gear together. Then we headed off to the dive spot that was like a 30 minute boat ride. We hit a lot of bad waves. We got there and it was nice clear water.

Refreshing

(Tikihau 2007)

I went in 2nd. There was lots, I mean lots of coral and rocks and also fish under there and we were about 60 feet underwater. We saw lionfish, eel, and many other wonderful and weird creatures. My Dad and I took lots of really good pictures. After the first dive we went up and got all our stuff off and changed our tanks for the second dive. We also got served with hot tea to warm us up. While we were drinking the tea we headed to the second spot it wasn't that far away. We went into the water and it kind of looked the same but we saw a sea turtle. The master diver was petting it on its head.

Then we saw another lionfish. And during the dive I happened to look at my camera and noticed that it was all foggy. So when we got on the boat I told my dad. He said he will look at it when we get back to the room. The boat ride back was much quicker. When we got back we brought our stuff back to our room so we could rinse it off. My dad thought my camera case had a leak. He read the manual to the casing and realized that you have to put grease on the seal before you use it.

After all that we headed to lunch, I got a cheeseburger. It was really good but messy and it ended up on my shirt. After lunch my parents wanted to get some sun so I decided to get some bread and tried catching some fish with my hands. I caught a lot. After I caught the fish I went back inside and decided to take a shower to get the seawater off me. I listened to my ipod and wrote in my journal until we had to go to dinner. I got another cheeseburger because there was nothing else that was good on the menu. But before we came back we got some ice for our cooler that we put the drinks in. I wasn't that tired but I got my ipod and laied in bed. My parents stayed up a lot longer that I did so I got a better night sleep then them.
